Gravity Fitness Portable Pull Up Rack | My Honest Review

I'm far from a calisthenics guru, however, I have been a personal trainer for over 20 years and what I am good at is working with real people in the real world and helping them find ways to enjoy exercise they never thought they would, and that's exactly why I bought this rack.

Pull ups, dips, hanging exercises: this stuff taps into something primal. Half my clients have a massive grin on their face the moment they're hanging off a bar. It takes them back. Suddenly they're kids again, messing about on the monkey bars. That mindset shift alone is worth its weight in gold.

So when I decided to invest in a portable pull up rack for my fitness studio at Priory Farm, I wanted something I could trust with real clients of all shapes and sizes. Here's what I found.

Build Time

Under 5 minutes: which is genuinely impressive. There are around 10 large metal poles that connect together with clips and although it's not quite the "ping it open like a gazebo" experience I'd love it's definitely doable on your own without any tools. I managed it in under 5 minutes first attempt and once you've done it a couple of times I'd imagine it gets a lot quicker.

Verdict: Easy enough. Just don't expect magic.

Quality & Stability

There is a slight wobble, which is to be expected with a portable rack, but honestly — it doesn’t feel unsafe, and I tested it on myself and a range of clients of different shapes and sizes. The steel feels solid, it held up well, and I feel confident to let clients of all shapes and sizes hang around safely on it.

Verdict: Little wobble, but solid enough for safe use.

The Extension Kit

This one did test my patience a little. It took me closer to 10 minutes to assemble and was noticeably trickier than the main rack. Maybe because I’m small? and stupid? Doesn’t help (lol) so I made the call not to keep it for my studio setup. That said, if you're taller you're gonna need it. Just factor in some extra time on your first build and leave it up in position somewhere if you can.

Verdict: Worth considering if height matters for you: just allow extra assembly time.

Overall

I really like this rack and it'll be a daily fixture at Fit with Frank. It's fun, it's versatile, and it gets clients doing things they never thought they could.

Verdict: If you're looking for a portable pull up rack for your home or garden this gets a big thumbs up (and knees up) from me.

Have fun!
