This week, we welcomed our very first guest to The Voice of Fitness Reason podcast, and honestly, it’s hard to imagine a more inspiring person to kick things off than Kirsty.

Kirsty’s journey through breast cancer, divorce, and raising her family is powerful enough on paper. But hearing her speak, with such honesty and strength, really hit me in a way I didn’t expect. It reminded me why we do what we do. Why movement isn’t just about muscles, steps, or scales – it’s about feeling alive, empowered, and in control of your own body, especially after it’s been through trauma.
“It wasn’t about weight loss anymore – it was about taking my power back.”
That one line stuck with me. In fact, I’m still thinking about it.
Kirsty explained how, after her diagnosis and treatment, her relationship with exercise completely changed. It stopped being a way to change how she looked and became a way to reconnect with herself, regain confidence, and rebuild strength from the inside out.
As a coach, I’ve always believed movement is medicine. But listening to Kirsty talk about what exercise meant to her throughout her cancer journey, not just physically but emotionally, really put that into perspective. It’s about so much more than reps and routines. It’s about reclaiming your space. Owning your story. Feeling like you again.

💬 Final Thought
Kirsty lives somewhere “up north” (i.e., anywhere above Watford, according to my very Southern geography skills 😅) but her message? That travels everywhere.
If you’re going through something difficult, health-related or otherwise, please remember this:
You don’t have to wait until it’s all over to move, you can move through it.
Even the smallest step can be an act of defiance. A declaration that you're still here. And still you.
